McDowell Mountain Ranch Area Info

McDowell Mountain Ranch is an award winning 3,200 acre master-planned community situated in the foothills of the McDowell Mountains in Scottsdale, Arizona. This community, which was first conceived in 1992 and then opened to the public in 1995, is made up of 26 distinct neighborhoods, built by 14 different builders, and comprises almost 4,000 homes. Over $130,000,000 was spent on infrastructure and site improvements which included miles of paved and natural trails, a narrow-cast cable TV station, a Community Center, the McDowell Center, two heated pools and spas, children's playgrounds, tennis courts, picnic and green areas.

The Ranch sits adjacent to the McDowell Sonoran Desert Preserve and is home to such publicly funded assets as the Desert Canyon School Campus, the Scottsdale Arabian Library, Westworld, Sanctuary Golf Course and the McDowell Mountain Ranch Aquatic Center. Many recreational opportunities are also available to its populace, including a daily fee golf course, community pools, tennis and an extensive trail system. There are over two miles of lighted pathways through the beautiful desert landscape, connecting a five-acre community park and clubhouse with trail access to the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. There are also two shopping centers within The Ranch offering a variety of dining experiences, a large supermarket, and many unique and wonderful shopping and service opportunities.

In Spring 2007, McDowell Mountain Aquatic Park opened its doors, featuring a competition swimming and diving pool with water slides, a lazy river and a state-of-the-art skate park. Scottsdale Healthcare sponsors a state of the art fitness center within the aquatic center.

Area attractions fit for the whole family include the Arizona Cowboy College, The Ice Den, The McDowell Family Fun Zone, Westworld – Home of the Barrett Jackson Classic Auto Auction, the Arabian Horse Show and other attractions. Other close attractions include, World class golf resorts including TPC of Scottsdale, Troon Golf, Kierlands and many others. CrackerJax and Fiddlesticks Family Fun Parks are just down the street. Culturally diverse events in the neighborhood include the Annual ArtFest of Scottsdale, the Festival of the West and the McDowell Mountain Music Festival, to name a few. McDowell Mountain Ranch is a place where the community meets nature to combine magnificent scenery, a fun family lifestyle and a recreational paradise.

Transportation throughout the area is easy for its 12,000 residents, utilizing the Loop 101 freeway, the nearby Scottsdale Airport and the Valley Metro. Employment for the area is high. Scottsdale Airpark, which is the 2nd largest concentration of employees in the valley is only a few miles away. Downtown Scottsdale is 15 minutes South and downtown Phoenix is only 25 minutes southwest of McDowell Mountain Ranch.
